The graffiti in Lisbon is abundant, accomplished, and impossible to ignore. Here are few pics of a wall near the place we stayed. Photographs by Frank Harbour.

Shepard Fairey talks about getting busted in Denver here.
In a related vein, Matthew Rose has an effective click & print “Vote Obama” poster here.

A while back I posted a video of Mayor Hickenlooper’s soporific introduction to Dialog:City, a sort of arts festival coming to Denver to coincide with the Democratic National Convention. That video is not very inspiring, but it does look like the artists involved are coming up with interesting projects.
This one in particular, I find fascinating: artist Luke Dubois has taken all of the State of the Union speeches from US history and tracked the word frequency of each. He used this data to make lightbox charts that look a bit like what you see in an optometrist’s office.
The results are very telling. Some of them read a bit like psychotic poetry. You can view low res pics of Dubois’ work, titled “Hindsight is Always 20/20,” here.
The Denver Art Museum recently hosted an exhibition of some of these remarkable quilts. I had to come back and see the show twice. Living in poverty and isolation and using a visual language all their own, these women made bed coverings that rival the best examples of abstract painting. They are my heroes.

Will it be more interesting than this YouTube Video leads me to believe? I certainly hope so.

Artists get asked to donate their art to fundraisers for one thing or another all the time.
But Artma is special.
I’m plugging this event here because it is the most worthwhile of the art fundraisers in my personal experience, both in terms of the cause and the lovely execution of the event itself. The event raises money for the Morgan Adams Foundation, a research fund dedicated to improving the quality of life and survival rates of childhood cancer patients. It was begun in the memory of Morgan Adams, who died at age six.
The auction will take place this year on February 23 at the Denver Studio Complex. You can learn more about Artma here.
I encourage any Denverites who are inspired by Morgan’s story and the legacy of hope that is Artma to get involved, either by donating work if you’re an artist or attending the event if you’re a collector.
The painting I’m donating this year is The Wind in My Sails, shown below.

How exciting. Will you pay about eight hundred over on the shipping, then ask me to reimburse you?
Last time you had different last name and needed to beautify your new home in London.
My question- why don’t you try to vary and personalize these emails a little more? My suspicions are aroused when the wording is so similar from one email to the next. But this detail was a new twist, and most interesting to me- through sleight of punctuation, you seem to have turned your last name into an adverb at the beginning of your letter.
My favorite related story here, on 419 Eater.
My other collected Olympia simulacra – the Manet, the Larry Rivers, the student-grade parody with George W. As Olympia – remain untouched. The Ramos is by no means one of my favorite paintings, but pornographic? I don’t think so.
