Crows

We have a nest of crows in our back yard for the first time since we have lived here.

Their distinctive caws fill the air from morning till dusk.

Clearly they agree with Hillary Clinton that it takes a village; one huge baby crow flew the nest a little too soon, before its tail feathers had completely come in.

At least four adults hover close and scream at any human, cat or dog in the general vicinity.

My friend, colleague, and show-partner Melissa Rackliff  has an abundance of crows (or maybe they’re ravens- I’m not sure that I know the difference) in her very nice new paintings hanging currently at CORE New Art Space. I have work hanging there, too.

The First Friday Artwalk for this show will be on July 2, from 6 to 9 PM.

Allison Moorer’s new release “Crows” is beautiful. I want to listen again & again.

Once in a blue moon

We are coming up on the second of two blue moons that we’ll have this year.

I don’t know what the odds are of having two blue moons in a year, and my geekery level isn’t high enough this evening to find out.

I’m too busy trying to paint a Mexican wrestler.

Good news- a trio of great shows at CORE New Art Space. Opening tomorrow with an artists’ reception on Friday evening, this show features three artists at different points in their careers, working in different genres.

All three are gifted and dedicated artists, and I recommend you come to see this show if you can.

My friend Claudia Roulier, is one of the three artists in this show. Claudia makes me feel like an underachiever; she is so prolific and talented, and her (often delightfully creepy) work is a must-see!

Fall in love and fall apart

Dana Cain is curating her first show for CORE New Art Space. For “The Love Show,” she has conceived a full-blown metaphor of a love affair to give the exhibit a life of its own. Each weekend has special events that echo the stages of love- the joys and the pains.
Opening reception this Friday, Feb. 12 from 6 to 10 PM includes valentines signed by the artists for the first 100 attendees, a PDA photo booth and the arrival of Dream Date Phil Bender and his lucky contest winner/date at 8:30 PM.

Ain’t love grand?

Please ignore the annoying all-caps.

I know neither why it happened, nor how to change it.

The Bluebird of Happiness in the Clearing of Common Confusions

Bluebird

It seems I will have work in 3 shows that have opening receptions on the evening of December 11th.

This has never happened to me before, but it’s a nice problem to have. I am counting my blessings.

One is the previously mentioned Art Market at the Arvada Center.

The second is The Unity Church of Denver, who have accepted 13 of my paintings for their “Angels” show.

Thirdly, I’ll be showing with at CORE with two very talented artists, Terri Bell and Melissa Rackliff.

The Dog and Pony Show

There is another attractive juried exhibit currently showing in Denver at CORE New Art Space. The Dog and Pony Show, juried by Craig Marshall Smith and curated by Claudia Roulier, called for artwork depicting animals in any media. I was happy to have a couple of pieces accepted into the show, including “The One-Horse Town,” shown above. My personal favorites from the show were Skyler McGee’s large, loosely worked, breathtaking canvases just inside the gallery’s front door.
