about me in Local Pigeon, here.
Thanks, Jason Sandberg & Local Pigeon.
As February 10, the opening date for my solo show at Zip 37 (preemptively conceived of and titled as “Lovesick”) approached, I realized the 50 unfinished canvases in my studio were nowhere near becoming 50 finished canvases. Or even 20. Or 10.
I have been painting every day. Really. But winter is never kind to my psyche. Worrying, sleeping and moping consumes a lot of time. Progress is slow and inertia is a harsh mistress.
I never want to half-ass a new solo by hauling out older stuff, so I was in quite a dither and moaning about this to friends when it occurred to me- like the zen koan about the guy who goes out riding on his horse for the purpose of finding a horse- I have friends. (Or at least, people willing to talk to me:) Some of those friends make art. And some of them make art about love, at least sometimes.
Et voila- “Lovesick” will include the work of nine of my favorite Colorado artists, exploring the madness that is love. There will be paintings, drawings, sculpture, photography, book arts and printmaking.
I am grateful to Penney Bidwell, Heather Doyle-Maier, Sarah Haney, Sara-Lou Klein, Lokken Liane, Claudia Roulier, Valerie Savarie and Susan Vaho for saying yes. And I am excited about this show, opening on February 10 and running until February 26 .
Oil on canvas, 12″ x 9″.
I am very pleased to announce that I am joining the Fresh Art Studios in the Santa Fe Art District in Denver. Come November, my studio mate Meg Voigt Meersman and I will be open to the public every first and third Friday and by appointment .
My show at Zip 37 is over. I’ve taken the paintings away and prepared the gallery for the next artist. It’s been a good run and I sold 9 paintings between the two shows at CORE and Zip (essentially the same body of work on two different sides of town) as well as a handful of monotypes. I’m thanking whatever gods may be that smiled on me these past two months- but I’m especially thanking the good folks who like the work enough to fork over some money and take it home. (Maybe I can get that root canal & crown now.)
My next show is scheduled to open at Zip 37 on February 10, 2012. It wasn’t my first choice of date but I’ll work with it. I plan to do some reading and thinking about the sickness that is love in preparation for this show which falls around Valentine’s Day.

I am gearing up for the September 2 First Friday reception for my show, “Animuse” at Zip 37 gallery.
From the press release:In my newest work, I continue to explore intuitive painting methods to bring subconscious imagery to the surface.
The ideas of Carl Jung as they address allegory and myth have been a recent source of fascination,
and The Animus as muse is my overriding inspiration for this show. Also present in the canvases are ruminations on dreams,
The Shadow, and archetypal glimmers.
The show was well received last month at CORE New Art Space and I had a terrific opening reception at Zip this last Friday. I feel both grateful and relieved- I don’t think I’ve ever worked so hard toward a show. I am looking forward at this point to spending long hermity weeks in my studio stretching new canvas and wearing old clothes.

Titan Arum man is coming along well. He should be done in time for the show, which needs to be hung in – gads – a little more than two weeks.
The slightly larger painting that I have high hopes for is still giving me fits.
Don’t know if it will be done in time.
