Spotlight

about me in Local Pigeon, here.

Thanks, Jason Sandberg & Local Pigeon.

Nice write up in NYT on SICA & “The Sum of Their Parts”

Right here.

This show runs until February 24.

I am very grateful to Doug Ferrari for including my work in what looks to be a beautiful exhibit.

Adagio Notturno (3 Little Birds)

Oil on canvas, 12″ x 9″.

I am very pleased to announce that I am joining  the Fresh Art Studios in the Santa Fe Art District in Denver. Come November,  my studio mate Meg Voigt Meersman and I will be open to the public every first and third Friday and by appointment .

Over

My show at Zip 37 is over. I’ve taken the paintings away and prepared the gallery for the next artist. It’s been a good run and I sold 9 paintings between the two shows at CORE and Zip (essentially the same body of work on two different sides of town) as well as a handful of monotypes. I’m thanking whatever gods may be that smiled on me these past two months- but I’m especially thanking the good folks who like the work enough to fork over some money and take it home. (Maybe I can get that root canal & crown now.)

My next show is scheduled to open at Zip 37 on February 10, 2012. It wasn’t my first choice of date but I’ll work with it. I plan to do some reading and thinking about the sickness that is love in preparation for this show which falls around Valentine’s Day.

Again & Again

I am gearing up for the  September 2 First Friday reception for my show, “Animuse” at Zip 37 gallery.

From the press release:In my newest work, I continue to explore intuitive painting methods to bring subconscious imagery to the surface.
The ideas of Carl Jung as they address allegory and myth have been a recent source of fascination,
and The Animus as muse is my overriding inspiration for this show. Also present in the canvases are ruminations on dreams,
The Shadow, and archetypal glimmers.

The show was well received last month at CORE New Art Space and I had a terrific opening reception at Zip this last Friday. I feel both grateful and relieved- I don’t think I’ve ever worked so hard toward a show. I am looking forward at this point to spending long hermity weeks in my studio stretching new canvas and wearing old clothes.

Carry My Shadow

Oil on canvas, 40′ x 4′.

Desperado

I have four weeks left to finish some big paintings for this show.

Progress in the studio is steady but slow. I am covered in paint and sweat. It isn’t pretty.

Small Painting Frenzy

In preparation for the Art Students League of Denver’s Summer Art Market, I’ve been finishing as many small paintings as possible.

“Spit in the Wind,” 10″ x 10″.

“First Flight,” 5″ x 5″.

“The Beast Bows,” 6″ x 6″.

“Summer Bride,” 5″ x 5″.

“Voice of Reason,” 5″ x 5″.

“The Storyteller,” 6″ x 6″.

“Mountain of Gief,” 5″ x 5″.

“Plenty of Fish,” 5″ x 5″.

“The Joker,” 5″ x 5″.

“Pupae,” 5″ x 5″.

I’ll be sharing booth # 24 with Claudia Roulier, one of my favorite artists in Denver.

Buena

I’m very pleased to be preparing for this show at the Arkansas Valley Art Center in Buena Vista, Colorado.

I’ll have a whole bunch of oil paintings on display- it’s way more wall space than I’m used to having- and some very affordable, wrapped monotypes available.

My thanks to Kathee Kiehn and the other nice folks at AVAC for this opportunity!

Every Body’s Beautiful

I’m delighted to be showing a handful of nudes in this show -which opens tonight- at Stoneheart Gallery in Evergreen, Colorado.
